Welcome!

Welcome to diywoodenboats.net where we love wood boats. If you want to learn more about boat plans, wooden boat plans, free boat plans, and diy wooden boats, please read on. We've tried to locate some of the best boat plans that are available for sail for all of the "hands-on" people that like to "do-it-yourself". We understand!!! Looking back over the sands of time, it’s ironic to think of the concept “do-it-yourself” which now carries the acronym “DIY”. The irony is that, relatively speaking, it wasn’t too long ago that everyone was a “do-it-yourselfer”. With the age of commercialization, everything is right at our fingertips at the market price. It seems that people are so specialized these days that many of us have a hard time understanding exactly what we accomplished. For those of us that aren’t in a mechanical or construction oriented career, it can be very difficult to quantify our daily accomplishments at times. … and that’s what brings me to my point. People are yearning to see the fruits of their labor. It’s rewarding to put something together and make it work! That’s what DIY Boats is all about. We want to seek out boat kits and boat plans so that you can build a boat yourself. You’ll know your boat inside and out which is rewarding when you get it together and even more rewarding when it comes to the maintenance of your boat. Now, just because you are going to do it yourself does not mean you can’t take advantage of knowledge that has been acquired over thousands of years. Generation after generation have been learning and passing along methods and best techniques. There are a few websites on the market that specialize in great boat plans! We’re going to go over these plans and kits. We hope to get you out of the cubicle, out of the house and off the internet for a little while. We want to get you building as soon as possible! The Duck Boat is obviously a speciialty boat designed for duck hunters. If you like this particular duck boat and are thinking about building one yourself, this set of duck boat plans will not disappoint. They are very thorough and clearly designed by engineers. We've included some pictures. If you are interested and want to know more, just click on through to their website, click on specialty boats, duck boats and learn more. Camouflage Duck Boat So, moving on to the specifications. For this particular duck boat, the transom is is designed to be a 20" shaft. As we're going through some of the specifications, please keep in mind that these duck boat plans can be changed to be suit your needs. For example, even though the plans do not show a fixed fuel tank, there is room for a 12 gallon tank under the foredeck (please don't mistakenly shoot it!). Also, the cockpit, is designed to be about 9' by 4' but the size of the cockpit can be completely customized. These duck boat plans show the option to build for a transom and a sponsoons. Overall, the boat is stiff but still a light one piece structure. It's recommended to be built out of marine plywood with a completely fiberglassed bottom both inside and out. A jig is not required to build this boat but strongbacks can be used if desired. The sides and bottom are simply cut from 4x8 plywood. Ultimately though, all of the seams are taped with fiberglass and epoxy which are much stronger than plywood alone. Anyway, we're told that that this project is fit for a first time builder. Obviously, it helps to have some wood working and hands on experience and the less experience you have, the more time the project will take. However, if you're like us, you like to do it yourself and these set of duck boat plans will get you going!!!
